Too fast too furious

Last Sunday’s class turned out to be one of the better ones. I had tons of corrections and praises by my dance teacher (which feels awesome and you know it). I even managed to keep up with the petite allegro cum piroutte exercise, which even my teacher was pleasantly surprised! I had one of those ‘good turn’ days, if you know what I mean. My pirouttes and fouttes were all in control. Left side was being gracious too.

If you saw my previous dance post, where I asked about cracked toe nails, well, I’m still battling with it. It has now gotten to a pointe (pun fully intended), whereby I can feel it (the toe nail, duh!) moving every time I go up en pointe. I know it’s a bit gross, my apologies, but I seriously know not what to do with it. It is a ticking time bomb on my toe.

Anyway, we were told to do posse turns en pointe, and for some unknown reason, I tend to spin out of control! Not exactly falling down, out of control per se, but more of the speed of my turns. I can start out slow, but as I kept turning, I just keep going faster and faster even though I wanted to slow down so bad. It came to a pointe where I am actually scared for my life and actually heave a sigh of relief when I end! So if anyone experienced the same thing, please let me know how you rectified this. It happens on both my left and right side, even though my left is somewhat wobbly, thus, fearing for my life.

Aquarium Overhaul

I had a bout of itchy green fingers again, and browsing through Pinterest, looking at the lush aquariums some people have done, isn’t exactly helping. Since last week was a long weekend in Singapore as Polling Day falls on a Friday (which I hope, all my fellow Singaporeans got whoever they voted for), I decided to give in, because what better to get rid of temptation?

Broken toe nail =(

Its been a while since I blogged, but my exams and assignments are finally over (at last!), so I figured, why not?

I went for ballet class last weekend, and I’m not sure if its because I missed a couple of lessons prior (coz exams), but for some unknown reason, pointework seems to be really hard for me this week.

We did a short barre, so centre was about 1.5 hours. After doing a couple of demi pointes in the centre (the burrrnnn),  we moved on to pirouttes en dedan from fourth, when something really weird happened. I couldn’t go up on my left feet. There was a nagging pain on my left big toe, and no matter how I braced myself for the turn, I just couldn’t get up, and ended up doing it in demi pointe.

Teacher-In-Training?

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve posted. I have work piled up to my neck! Although tuition classes has stalled for the term holidays, I have been busy dealing with my never-ending school assignments, and also starting an online shop (reading contracts saps most of my energy)!

My dance teacher, then has to break her ankle. Before I know, I’m receiving a call from her, requesting me to help her with classes, just to demo. Well, if its just to demonstrate a few dance moves to a couple of kids, why not? How wrong was I.

Perfect Pointe Shoe Quest Continues….

I am so excited! Over the weekend, I went for my first ever, pointe shoe fitting! Although I have been pointe work for years, I haven’t had the chance to get fitted to the point(e) (pun much intended) of choosing 9-10 pairs at once. As my current studio sells pointe shoes as well, previously Bloches and Grishkos, now Wear Moi (which personally, I feel, looks really bulky) I usually just get fitted by my teacher and buy whatever she recommends to me.

Thou shalt wear G-strings for ballet class

And I’m not even kidding.

One of my dance friends wore a pair of boyshorts panty to class last sunday (why we can see it? My class adopts the traditional leotards over pink tights look, so yea, her leotard can never cover her undies. Its not even talking about VPL anymore when its pink tights you are wearing) and the first thing my teacher said when we were waiting at the barre for class to start was: why are you wearing ugly undies? Dancers should always wear G-Strings! Next time wear a G-String to class!
